Student Statistics on Placement

Our graduates from the classes of 2016 to 2023 have found successful placement in a diverse variety of positions. Alumni have served as medical physicists in top medical care institutions such as the Cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (Beijing, China), the National University of Singapore Medical Center (Singapore), and the Hospital Vila Nova Star (São Paulo, Brazil).

For pursuing further academic training, our M.Sc. students have matriculated into Ph.D. programs at Duke University, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, University of British Columbia, University of Minnesota, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and other prestigious institutions. Some graduates went into industry and found unique opportunities such as at Elekta, United Imaging Healthcare, and Ion Beam Applications. In addition, some graduates work at academic institutions as lecturers or research assistants.

Going for a Ph.D. Program
My undergraduate degree was not directly related to medical physics, and I lacked research experience and relevant courses. Therefore, it is quite difficult for me to apply for a Ph.D. program directly. The MP program at Duke Kunshan University provided me with cohesion and transition.

Going for Jobs
Being part of the DKU MP program brought me a lot of gratification. Academically, the program is very strong, with amazing faculty both at DKU and at Duke whose focus on teaching and helping students were unlike anything I had experienced in undergraduate school. It is a program that will truly help improving patient care worldwide. As for living in DKU as an international student, the experience was overwhelmingly pleasing.

Courses in the medical physics program provide knowledge of three aspects – diagnostic imaging, radiation therapy, and nuclear medicine – so I could easily choose and qualify for any armamentarium marketing work in these three fields. Courses delivered in English, English presentations and essay writing all exercised my English ability, which was essential for my current work environment. Moreover, medical physics is a small and specialized field in which our professors have lots of resources, so they can direct students toward suitable companies and positions according to the student’s thoughts on their future development, which can save us time casting our nets and makes applications more successful.

I think Duke Kunshan University is the best medical physics program in the East, offering a world-class education that combines Western and Eastern styles of training. I met countless great teachers at both Duke Kunshan and Duke; I can never forget my advisor’s words: “Fail and Learn.” In Durham, Dr. Yin gave me the confidence I was unsure I could have. He made me do everything first on my own. After giving a lot of thumbs-up and thumbs-down, he then started telling me what had gone wrong. That’s when I realized that I’ll always remember the things I did wrong. This helps me improve as a researcher and as a person. I shouldn’t rely too much on others and first try having self-confidence.
